Resumo
The text addresses the relationship between the social marker of gender and school performance in Mathematics. Differences in the school performance of boys and girls has been a research topic since the 1970s and, since then, different results have been reported regarding different learning contents. Thus, the present article aimed to know the panorama of research, published in scientific articles, on the school performance of boys and girls in Mathematics. The methodology was designed as a literature review, in which this review was limited to the survey of only research published in scientific articles and indexed in a database, SciELO. Based on the descriptors “school performance”, “Mathematics” and “gender”, 09 articles were found in total, dating from 2003 to 2022. This is a scarce production that has only appeared more frequently in recent decades. With the reading and analysis of the articles, we saw that 07 articles deal with empirical investigations and 02 articles with theoretical investigations. The articles were heterogeneous, mainly addressing the context of High School and Elementary School II. All bring the issue of gender as a central theme, questioning the perpetuation of inequalities, including gender, at school and, more specifically, in mathematics education. However, there is a need to expand investigations on the subject, dealing with Early Childhood Education and the early years of Elementary School, and that other social markers, such as race, ethnicity, sexuality, are intersected with gender in terms of education. math.
