Resumo

Classroom routines provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful discourse. The choral counting routine (Franke et al., 2018) asks the entire group to chorally count a number sequence aloud together while the teacher records the number sequence in a thoughtfully chosen way. Next, the teacher facilitates a conversation about the number sequence, inviting students to share their ideas while the teacher notates and strategically follows up on the students' thinking. Choral counting can help PK students feel like they belong in mathematics.
