Resumo

This dissertation investigates how gender bias manifests in mathematical narratives produced by generative Artificial Intelligence systems, problematizing the notion of neutrality in mathematics and technology. The research is situated in the field of Mathematics Education, in dialogue with gender studies and feminist discourse analysis, drawing on contributions from Skovsmose, D’Ambrosio, Butler, Noble, and Fischetti and Torrano to understand mathematics as a social, cultural, and political practice. Adopting a qualitative approach, the study articulates three data production procedures: questionnaires applied to AI users, analysis of images generated by AI systems, and simulations of mathematical problems at different levels of education. The analyses were conducted based on responses produced by the systems ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Gemini, enabling a comparative reading of the ways in which these technologies construct subjects, scenarios, and mathematical rationalities. The results reveal that, despite differences among systems, generative AIs tend to reproduce instrumental mathematical rationalities and to perform gendered subjects, associating masculinity with epistemic authority and femininity with organization, learning, and pedagogical care. Thus, the research demonstrates that algorithmic neutrality is constituted as a discursive effect, reaffirming that mathematics and technology are not neutral, but rather traversed by power relations. Finally, the study argues for the importance of a critical reading of AI in the field of Mathematics Education as a means to challenge inequalities and expand possibilities for knowledge production.
