Relações entre o plano e o espaço: exploração do pensamento geométrico por meio da arte fotográfica

Resumo

This experimental research and with collaboration of Fapesq - support Foundation to the Research of the State of Paraíba, aims to promote a dialectical discussion between space and plan, using photographs as a starting point. The research focuses on exploring methodological approaches that are based on photographic exploration, emphasizing the importance of visualization, imagination and creativity, seeking to establish connections between art and mathematics. Therefore, our general objective is to establish relationships between mathematical thinking and art, through photography, either through the act of photographing or analyzing an image, thus seeking to contribute to activities that point to dialogues that promote relationships between the plan and the space. With that, we list as specific objectives: to experiment and discuss about the looks that can arise from the analysis of a photograph; stimulate the development of spatial perceptions from the act of visualizing; promote the use of imagination and creativity from activities that involve visual processes, such as observation and perception. For this, the investigation contemplates themes related to geometry, art and visualization, especially, focusing on the teaching of geometry and its difficulties associated with geometric thinking. Photography is one of the objects of study regarding the teaching of geometry, present in Reading and Writing in Mathematics Education – Political – Pedagogical Project (LEEMAT), with previous and ongoing research, which are also based on this research object. Such similarities were justified considering previous works by Soares (2019) and Sousa (2022). The research participants were 27 6th year students from a school located in the interior of Paraíba. The meetings took place in person during the months of November and December of 2022. As we faced challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic, biosafety measures, such as the use of masks, were adopted. To produce data, we use recordings from cell phones, photographic records and textual production. Based on the results, we highlight the importance of activities that involve imagination, as they contribute to aspects such as creativity and development of reasoning and abstraction, furthermore, we highlight the importance of work that involves exploring relationships between two- and three-dimensional aspects in the study of geometry. The positive results obtained and the recognition of the students demonstrate the value and relevance of the commitment and dedication employed during the workshops. This experience will continue to be improved, serving as inspiration for new academic research, aiming to reach an even wider audience.
