Resumo
This article presents the results of doctoral research on intercultural education, grounded in Ubiratan D’Ambrosio’s Ethnomathematics Program in dialogue with Paulo Freire. The research aimed to analyze the connections between education and politics in the context of Haitian immigrants’ schooling. To this end, the methodology of being in borders was developed, based on processes of otherness, listening, and dialogue. The research took place in two stages: participant observation at a Youth and Adult Education Center (CIEJA) in São Paulo, Brazil, and interviews with the principal, three teachers, and two Haitian students. The results highlight the relationships established within the school community and point to three boundaries that shape immigrants’ trajectories: racism, professional training, and language.
