Resumo
This theoretical essay aims to reflect on the similarities and differences between the foundations of the Ethnomathematics Program, expressed in the dynamics of cultural encounters, and the movement of (de)coloniality as understood by Ubiratan D'Ambrosio, through an interview entitled "Ubiratan D'Ambrosio and Decoloniality in Ethnomathematics." We adopt the ontological perspective that, in our view, underlies D'Ambrosio's formulation of the Ethnomathematics Program, the main argument used by the author to reflect on a substantive difference present in his analysis. Methodologically, we chose the essay form, as it allows us to seek and reflect on new knowledge and new approaches, scientific or pre-scientific, without compromising the subjectivity of the essayist. The essay prompted us to consider and better understand the encounter of each culture's own categories with those of the human species, linked to the triangle of life and rooted in the imperative motivation of human survival and transcendence.
