Resumo
This study was motivated by the low level of students’ reasoning skills in mathematics learning in elementary school, which is caused by a lack of innovative and interactive learning media. This study aims to develop a teaching aid called the “Magic Cube” to improve students’ reasoning skills in fifth-grade elementary school mathematics. The method used was research and development (R&D) based on the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The study was conducted at an elementary school in East Cikarang, involving 44 fifth-grade students divided into an experimental group and a control group. Based on a needs analysis conducted on 22 students, a challenge was identified: students’ difficulty in understanding three-dimensional shapes. This condition can be seen from the students’ initial reasoning ability based on the pretest results, with the lowest score being 33. The research instruments included an expert validation questionnaire, teacher and student response questionnaires, as well as pretests and posttests as measurement tools. Validation results by experts in media, content, and language indicated that the CVR and CVI values were 1.00, falling into the “highly valid” category. Teacher responses averaged 92.5%, and student responses averaged 85.5%, both falling into the “highly practical” category. The N-Gain analysis results showed that the experimental class achieved a score of 0.87, falling into the “high” category, while the control class scored 0.46, falling into the “moderate” category. Based on these results, the “Magic Cube” teaching aid was deemed valid, practical, and effective in improving students’ reasoning skills in elementary school
