Resumo

Higher education students, particularly at community colleges, often perceive core mathematics courses such as College Algebra, Precalculus, and Statistics as disconnected from their academic and career goals, contributing to low motivation and engagement. This systematic literature review investigates the integration of technology in mathematics education as a potential solution, with a focus on programming languages, computational thinking (CT) platforms, and interactive applications. Guided by the PRISMA framework, we reviewed peer reviewed studies published between 2013 and 2024 from international academic databases. While the review captures a broad technology landscape, the synthesis emphasizes programming tools to align with higher education mathematics instructional contexts and are frequently addressed in the included studies. Programming tools like Python, R, and Scratch foster critical thinking and problem solving, while platforms such as RStudio and Minitab offer applied data analysis experiences within course-based learning activities. Despite these benefits, longitudinal evidence on skill retention and scalable implementation remains limited due to curricular constraints and faculty readiness. Future research should use long-term designs and validated measures, such as the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Computer Attitude Questionnaire (CAQ), and support faculty development alignment between tolls and course objectives.
