Resumo
The Brazilian Amazon encompasses seven states in the North, one state in the Central-West region (Mato Grosso) and part of one state in the Northeast region (Maranhão). This study was conducted in three traditional communities in two states in the North: one is the fishing village of Ajuruteua, in the city of Bragança, in Pará; another is the Matapi Agricultural Colony, in the municipality of Porto Grande, in the state of Amapá; and the third is the Quilombola Community of Santa Luzia do Maruanum, in Macapá, also in Amapá. The approach is qualitative and ethnographic, using various instruments to collect data, with the aim of investigating traditional labor practices from a sustainable and ethnomathematical perspective. The results show daily practices developed in the communities, using their own knowledge and skills, with a view to sustainability, cultural and environmental preservation, social development and economic equity.
