Resumo
This research article aimed to investigate ethnomathematical aspects present in the making of the matapi, used in artisanal shrimp fishing in a traditional fishing community on Ilha das Cinzas, in Gurupá, Pará. It identified the ethnomathematical knowledge present in the daily lives of the riverside fishermen of the community. This allows for the development of pedagogical strategies based on academic mathematical concepts that can be used in schools, valuing cultural knowledge and leading students to meaningful learning. A qualitative approach was adopted, with field research through visits and interviews with fishermen, residents of the community where the matapi-making process was observed, and important theoretical and methodological frameworks were used for data analysis. In this way, it was possible to obtain information about the matapi-making process, the dissemination and appreciation of traditional knowledge, and to infer the possibility of using this knowledge in schools.
