Ensino da Geometria por meio da etnomatemática em escolas indígenas no Estado da Paraíba

Resumo

This research project explores how Ethnomathematics can be integrated into the teaching of geometry in Potiguara Indigenous schools in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. The study involves the creation of didactic and pedagogical material that combines traditional Potiguara knowledge with technology, using the SuperLogo software. The main objective of the study was to propose a set of geometry teaching activities aimed at the Potiguara communities in the state of Paraíba. The research seeks to offer relevant and contextualized mathematics education for Indigenous students, promoting the appreciation of their culture.The project included the development of an activity booklet and interviews with teachers from Potiguara Indigenous schools, evaluating the effectiveness of the material created. The activity booklet was assessed by 19 mathematics teachers working in the 11 Indigenous schools in the state of Paraíba. The Educational Product was validated by an examination committee during the master's qualification exam.The results showed that Ethnomathematics facilitates the understanding of geometry and increases students’ interest in mathematics. The study highlights the importance of pedagogical approaches that value Indigenous traditional knowledge in mathematics education.
