Resumo
In agriculture, ethnomathematics reveals a rich diversity of mathematical concepts and applications, adapted to the needs and particularities of each culture. This knowledge, passed down from generation to generation, reflects folk wisdom and the deep connection between humans and nature. These knowledge needs to be valued and utilized in mathematics teaching in Basic Education to better contextualize academic content with the knowledge students already possess, thus fostering an approximation of formal mathematics with the students' daily lives. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the presence of ethnomathematics in corn cultivation in the rural area of Brejo Santo, Ceará, identifying the mathematical knowledge, tools, and instruments used by farmers, and analyzing how this knowledge relates to local culture, with the aim of understanding its potential to enrich mathematics teaching in Basic Education. The research contributes to basic education by valuing the mathematical knowledge inherent in the practice of corn cultivation, a central element of local culture. By integrating this knowledge into the curriculum, students will feel more connected to the content, perceiving mathematics as something alive and relevant to their context, which can increase engagement and motivation to learn. Qualitative research seeks to value traditional knowledge and understand its potential for improving mathematics teaching. The results indicate that farmers employ a variety of mathematical concepts, such as calculating areas, proportions, and geometry, using tools and instruments adapted to their needs.
