Resumo

The theme of this article is the construction of wooden boxes intended for honey production by bees. These boxes are located on the rural property of a small producer in Córrego Central, in the community of Cristalino, municipality of Nova Venécia, Espírito Santo. The objective of the research was to investigate the mathematization strategies of small farmers in the construction of beehives. It is found that the construction of beehives can be used as a didactic resource to assist in the teaching and learning of mathematical concepts of plane and spatial geometry. It is concluded that the mathematical practice of the rural producer acts as a subsidy for students to produce knowledge, through the articulation between concrete and abstract thinking, within the scope of geometric concepts.
