Resumo

One of the crucial fundamental mathematical skills for students is mathematical communication. This skill pertains to students' ability to convey the ideas and information they have acquired effectively. However, many students still have suboptimal mastery of this skill. Therefore, this study aims to develop worksheets based on realistic mathematics education (RME) that support mathematical communication skills for eighth-grade junior high school students. The study involved a mathematics education lecturer and a mathematics subject teacher who served as validators. In addition, 25 junior high school students were involved in product development trials. This study follows the research and development method by Plomp. The research tools encompass validation questionnaires, practicality assessments, and effectiveness evaluations. Validity ranged from 0.783 to 0.960 (Aiken's V coefficient), indicating strong validity. Practicality scores ranged from 81.25% to 95.83%, indicating high practicality. Efficiency, measured using student N-Gain, had a mean of 0.52, indicating moderate efficiency. Furthermore, the independent sample t-test yielded a two-tailed significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of using an RME-based worksheet. It can be suggested that the RME-based worksheets developed in this study are suitable for educational use and may support improving students' mathematical communication skills.
