Resumo

This article reports part of a research, developed in the ambit of the Professional Master's Degree in Education of the University of Pernambuco, which approaches the introduction of elements from Financial Mathematics (FM) and Financial Education (FE) to students of Youth and Adult Education. The approach is based on Ethnomathematics with the intention of relating sociocultural factors of family practices of the Youth and Adult Educationstudents involved in this research interrelations between FEand FM, reciprocally. The interest in modifying the practice of these students about how to organize their gains and expenses with the use of financial budgeting charts alludes to the option of action research as an approach. After the intervention, the completion of the charts showed that the misconceptions made about the appropriate grouping of items related to Gains and Expenses were practically erased, and the speech of some students allows us to say that the use of familiar practices encourages the establishment of bridges between the knowledge learned by them out of school with the school knowledge.
