Resumo

The education of Mathematics teachers reveals tensions between academic knowledge and the demands of Basic Education, especially in the teaching of Geometry. This study aimed to understand how Geometry is addressed in Mathematics teacher education programs at public institutions in Paraíba, Brazil, based on the analysis of Pedagogical Course Projects, with emphasis on course syllabi. This is a qualitative, documentary, exploratory-descriptive study. The results indicate the predominance of Academic Mathematics, with limited articulation with teaching and with Mathematical Knowledge Specific to Teaching. Gaps in initial teacher education are evident, particularly regarding the integration of content, pedagogical practice, and school demands, pointing to the need for curricula that foster the development of professional teaching knowledge.
