Resumo
Mathematics plays an important role in technical courses, especially when it is contextualized with the students' professional practice. The disconnect between mathematical learning and reality can result in outdated training, lacking the necessary critical thinking, questioning, or encouragement of student autonomy.It is essential that mathematics education be focused on its practical application, emphasizing problem-solving and the efficient and objective use of mathematical tools. Furthermore, it is essential that education is in line with current technologies and software, preparing students for the demands of the job market. For example, in the field of Nursing, where technicians work in partnership with nurses and other healthcare professionals, mathematics is applied in various activities. Nursing Technicians need to master mathematical concepts such as unit conversions, medication calculations, and drip rates, for example, which requires knowledge of the rule of three, proportions, and interpretation of confidence intervals to analyze blood counts and other results. Given this, it becomes necessary to reflect on the training process of Nursing Technicians, analyzing the teaching of Mathematics in their training to ensure that they acquire the necessary knowledge and to propose improvements in this process. This study is analytical and quantitative, addressing the meaning attributed to the teaching of mathematics in the Nursing Technician Course. The field research was conducted with graduating students of the Nursing Technician Course and professionals working in the field who graduated in the last two years. The research was carried out between July and September 2025 using a structured questionnaire.
